Tyson Barrie and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed to terms on a four-year, $22 million contract. Under the the new deal, Barrie’s salary will progressively increase over the life of the contract, with the defenseman earning $5 million, $5.25 million, $5.75 million and $6 million over the next four years. Barrie will count $5.5 million against the the Avalanche’s annual salary cap.

The team went through salary arbitration proceedings with Barrie in the offseason - the only contract negotiation to actually reach the arbitration phase - but the two sides were able to reach a deal shortly before arbitrator Elizabeth Neumeier announced her ruling.

Barrie expressed relief that a deal was able to be completed and also expressed appreciation that the Avalanche had shown enough faith in him to offer him a four-year deal.
